It’s World Brain Day, a global moment to appreciate that squishy little powerhouse inside our heads that keeps everything ticking along. Naturally, Lucy & Kel couldn’t let the day pass without giving brains their due.
They kicked things off with the classic reminder: yes, we all have one. But if you think about it too much (which, ironically, your brain is doing), it gets a bit weird. Brains talking to other brains, cruising around in people bodies? Existential crisis incoming.
Lucy almost made a joke about Kel not needing to celebrate, but we love him and his brain too much for that kind of shade.
Instead, the team got chatting about what people do to support their brains, outside of the usual mental health chats. Kel reckons the ultimate brain-boosting ritual (especially among the over-60s) involves puzzles. And not just any puzzles, Sudoku, word searches, and good old-fashioned crosswords.
That led to a major brain-flex moment: Lucy attempted her first crossword in years. What started as a chill Sunday brain teaser quickly spiralled into rage. The clue?
Three letters. Large animal with antlers.
She confidently wrote elk. Obviously. But nothing else in the crossword worked. Turns out the answer was gnu (yes, really), which is basically a wildebeest.
To quote Kel: “You learn something g-new every day!”
Did Lucy groan? Of course. Did Kel repeat the joke 30 seconds later? Absolutely. And somehow, it was even funnier the second time.
Crosswords aside, the team took a nostalgic detour through the world of Sudoku (Kel’s brain tapped out immediately) and Wordle (zero traction there). But the real joy? The moment of connection, reminiscing about puzzles with parents, grandparents, and that strange family bond that forms when you’re all collectively confused by a single clue.
World Brain Day gave Lucy & Kel the perfect excuse to nerd out on neurons, fumble through puzzles, and celebrate the brains that bind us. Whether you’re solving a cryptic clue or just remembering where you left your keys, today, we salute your squishy superstar upstairs.
