There are so many different belief systems available to us these days – religious, environmental, political, social … whatever. We tend to like to peg our own story, if you will, on some sort of framework, and then identify with that group. But what does it all mean?
According to Statista.com around 31.6% of the global population identifies as Christian. That’s around 2.6 billion people, projected to grow to 3.3 billion by 2050.
But what does all that mean? Will every one of those people end up in heaven? I doubt it. When I was growing up, sure, I identified as Christian on the government census forms. But the way I was living my life pretty clearly said the complete opposite.
Whatever you believe, we all have an expectation of what the life of a so-called Christian should look like. And mine looked nothing like that. How about your life? What do you identify as? And how does that compare to how you’re actually living your life?
As you mull that over, here’s Moses talking to the people of Israel before they crossed over into the Promised Land:
Deuteronomy 6:5 You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
When you love God like that, you can’t help it … it changes the way you live. How you live isn’t what opens the door to a relationship with God – that’s only available through faith in Jesus. But how you live is the evidence of your love of God.
You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
