The bushfires burning across Victoria have dominated our news feeds and social media, but their impact goes far beyond the headlines we scroll past each day. These fires are close to home, affecting communities just like ours. Many in the TheLight family may have been directly impacted, know someone who has been, or are experiencing the effects firsthand as smoke fills the air and daily life is disrupted.
In response, TheLight is joining hands with Christian disaster relief organisation Convoy of Hope to provide practical support to those affected. We are also calling on Australians to stand together in prayer for the communities facing loss, uncertainty, and recovery. In moments like these, unity, compassion, and faith can bring real hope and tangible help where it is needed most.
Convoy of Hope Australia and New Zealand National Director Joel A’Bell says the organisation is already working on the ground through local partners to support people forced from their homes.
“Our hearts are with every family affected by these fires, and with the CFA volunteers and others who are working tirelessly to protect lives and communities,” Mr A’Bell said.
“We’re asking people across Australia to join us in prayer, and to stand with their neighbours in practical ways.”
Convoy of Hope is currently partnering with local organisations in four fire-affected communities, and helping provide emergency accommodation for people displaced by the fires through the Airbnb Emergency Accommodation Program.
The organisation is also preparing to deliver essential relief supplies, including hygiene kits, basic necessities, and cleanup materials, to support communities through both the emergency response and recovery phase.
“Moments like this bring fear and uncertainty, but they also remind us of the power of compassion,” Mr A’Bell said.
“As a Christian organisation, we believe prayer and action go hand in hand, and we’re committed to walking alongside these communities for as long as it takes.”
Convoy of Hope is inviting Australians to pray for those impacted and to support the response through donations at Bushfire26.
