Self-awareness is so vitally important in keeping ourselves safe; in stopping ourselves from making the same mistakes over and over again; in protecting ourselves both from ourselves and from those who would do us harm, wouldn’t you agree?

The problem is, we all have blind spots when it comes to those temptations that repeatedly lead us astray. What are your weak spots – the temptations most likely to bring you undone, hmm?

I was reading a news article the other day, written by a reformed cybercriminal, providing advice on how to stay safe online. This is, in part, what he wrote:

People tend to have very good situational awareness in the physical world. If we’re in a store, we know if something’s off or if something just feels wrong. That doesn’t translate very well in an online environment, but it should.

So, on top of self-awareness (keeping our own weaknesses front of mind) we need situational awareness to know when someone’s coming after us, be that a scammer, or the scammer-in-chief … the devil himself –  something that Eve apparently didn’t have when it counted most:

Genesis 3:6-7 The woman could see that the tree was beautiful and the fruit looked so good to eat. She also liked the idea that it would make her wise. So she took some of the fruit from the tree and ate it. Her husband was there with her, so she gave him some of the fruit, and he ate it. Then it was as if their eyes opened, and they saw things differently. They saw that they were naked. So they got some fig leaves, sewed them together, and wore them for clothes.

Stay alert! Don’t allow yourself to be scammed.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
