I’m pretty sure there’s not a one of us who hasn’t been at the bottom of a hole that we’ve dug for ourselves; a disaster of our own making. In some cases, we’re able to get ourselves out of it. In others … well, not so much.

Over the last few days we’ve seen that that phenomenon is as old as time itself, with Adam and Eve disobeying God in the Garden of Eden by eating a piece of forbidden fruit and being booted out – permanently – to a life of pain and suffering and toil.

And that’s the very dilemma that we each face. We’ve all turned our backs on God. We’ve all failed Him. We’re all in exactly the same position that Adam and Eve found themselves in – separated from God – permanently – unless something changes. That’s the bad news.

Ephesians 2:4 But God is rich in mercy, and he loved us very much. We were spiritually dead because of all we had done against him. But he gave us new life together with Christ. You have been saved by God’s grace.

There’s nothing that you and I can do to rebuild the bridge we’ve burned with Him. There’s nothing – not one iota – that we can do to earn His forgiveness. He is, after all, the God of justice as well as the God of love. That’s why He sent Jesus to pay the price of our rebellion. And when you believe in Him, when you put all your trust in what He did for you on that Cross … then you are saved by God’s grace.

God is rich in mercy and He loves you very much!

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
