Not every day has to be life-changing to be good. Sometimes, the best moments are the ones that sneak up on you, like finding a forgotten snack in your bag, or that glorious first sip of coffee before the chaos begins.
That’s something Rob and Ash have been talking about lately. After all the deep chats around mental health during The Light’s Relate event, they realised something simple but powerful: happiness doesn’t always come from the big stuff. It’s the little moments that really make life sparkle.
For Ash, it was a Friday night with her husband, a 7-Eleven run for their favourite Japanese ice cream, and a new season of The Traitors. “It sounds small,” she said, “but I looked over and thought, this right here, this is good.
Meanwhile, Rob’s deep in new-dad life, and his “little thing” is something only parents will understand: the perfect baby swaddle. “When my daughter can’t bust her arms out and finally sleeps, my wife and I just look at each other like, nailed it!
Those tiny wins? They count. Gratitude doesn’t just make you feel good, it actually boosts your mood, helps you sleep better, and can even calm anxiety. Science agrees. So does the Bible. Turns out, being thankful really is good for the soul.
And it doesn’t have to be profound. Maybe it’s watching a kid jump into a pile of leaves like it’s their full-time job. Maybe it’s the tradie walking out of the fish and chip shop with four bags of hot chips, because somewhere, someone’s about to have a great lunch.
So here’s to the little things: the unprompted “I love you,” the perfect pen, the leftover pizza you forgot you had. Life doesn’t need to be grand to be good, you just have to notice when it is.
