Kel’s reaction to the new choc mint Tim Tams wasn’t subtle. He questioned how he’d made it nearly five decades without this flavour existing, convinced it should have been one of the originals!

But the conversation didn’t stay with the biscuit for long. It quickly drifted into something more familiar: the strange, specific world of childhood desserts.

Viennetta if you were going all out, Mint Slice if you were trying to feel grown-up with a cup of tea.

Rice pudding, complete with that slightly burnt, skin-like top. Or Kel’s controversial go-to for his kids: a bowl of milk, sliced banana, and an amount of sugar that, according to Lucy, raised genuine concerns about long-term dental outcomes.

Lucy also reminisced about the “dessert of her childhood,” Angel Delight, the packet-mix dessert that felt vaguely magical at the time. Add milk, a quick stir, and suddenly you had something that passed for mousse. Chocolate, banana, butterscotch, strawberry, the flavours that didn’t need to be sophisticated to feel special.

These weren’t just desserts; they were markers of effort, nostalgia, and a different standard of “treat.”

Was your childhood dessert a dentist’s dream like Kel’s go-to? Or something a little more sophisticated, like Viennetta or Angel Delight?
