Making enemies is never a good idea. No matter how miffed you may be at someone for how they treated you, it’s invariably not worth burning bridges over –  and yet we’ve all done it … trashed relationships that could have been saved.

Over the last couple of days we’ve been chatting about the terrible consequences of making an enemy of God … not because I mean to paint Him as a cosmic grouch with a big stick – He is, after all, the God of love – but because God’s judgement is real. He is, after all, also the God of justice.

Yesterday we saw that after disobeying Him, God booted Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden, meaning that their lives suddenly took a terrible turn for the worse. Perhaps it seems like a brutal way for the God of love to treat them, for something as apparently trivial as eating a piece of forbidden fruit … but let’s read on.

Genesis 3:23,24 So the LORD God forced the man out of the Garden of Eden to work the ground he was made from. God forced the man to leave the garden. Then he put Cherub angels and a sword of fire at the entrance to the garden to protect it. The sword flashed around and around, guarding the way to the tree of life.

The truth is that disobeying God is never trivial. Please allow that truth to penetrate your heart today, because tomorrow I have some good news for you. Some great news. But for today, allow this truth to sink in deep where it counts – sin is never trivial.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
