For many, fear is a constant companion. Now, you might be thinking “I’m not afraid of anything right now.” Good for you. The question is, what’s around the corner?

We see fear, by and large, as being a bad thing … and often it is. But today I’d like to share with you a good fear, because as He did with Israel, no matter what may confront us in life, God wants to save us, to set us free from those bad fears into a good fear.

1 Peter 1:17-19 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (ESV)

The bad things we do, the wrong things we get into (as we all do from time to time) are, more than often, the root cause of the niggling fears that eat away at us inside. Can I put it as bluntly as this? Sin opens the door to fear.

But God’s saved us from all that by sending Jesus to die on a cross so we could be forgiven. He’s paid the ransom, set us free.

And now He’s calling us to fear Him, to respect Him, to honour Him. That’s a good fear because in that place, you discover a peace and a joy that you never thought possible. Today is the day to fear God.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
