Any woman who’s ever given birth knows that bringing a new life into this world is painful and messy. And whilst God, early on, gives Adam and Eve a reason for that, having a reason doesn’t make it any easier.
Pretty much everyone, whether they acknowledge its truth or not, knows the story of Christmas – that God allegedly took on human form, being born in a stable in Bethlehem two thousand plus years ago. And whilst these days, Christmas has largely morphed into a bumper retail event, that wondrous truth still rings down through the ages to us here and now.
Perhaps you’ve done the whole Christmas thing over and over again. You know the story, you’ve sung the carols, and so it’s a wondrous truth that’s become just a little too routine.
But stand back and look at this truth again – that the God who created the universe, who holds it all together for His own glory, chose to become a man, and it becomes … gobsmackingly amazing. Zoom in for a closer look at the circumstances of His birth and it becomes completely unfathomable.
Luke 2:7 She gave birth to her first son. She wrapped him up well and laid him in a box where cattle are fed. She put him there because the guest room was full.
He came not in comfort or with glamour. He was born in a stable, not a palace. He came as an absolute commoner … for commoners like you and me … to save us, to transform our lives for all eternity. Jesus.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
