I wonder how many love songs have ever been written. Millions. As many as the grains of sand on a beach … and then some. Without doubt, love would have to be the single, most sung-about topic in all of human history. Why is that, do you think?
Love songs have been a part of human expression for thousands of years. Ancient civilisations – the Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, the Chinese, the Indians – all had their own love songs. Many were passed down orally. Some are still sung today.
More recently, with the advent of recording technology and the proliferation of digital music platforms these days, the number of love songs has become … well, incalculable.
All that to say that love is, without doubt, the single most important subject known to mankind. We all need to be loved. We all want to be loved. And we all have the capacity to love others. There’s a reason for that and it’s this:
1 John 4:16 So we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is love. Everyone who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.
Common sense tells us that something as wondrous, as complex, as glorious as love couldn’t possibly have emanated from a random collection of cells that evolved out of the primeval slime. No. Love emanates from God, because God is love. Full stop.
And here you and I are, made in His image with an immense capacity to love and be loved, all because God is love.
Who is it today who needs to be loved by you? Because when all is said and done, the most important thing you and I have to do today, tomorrow, and the next day … is to love.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
