Five years ago, Danny Abdallah’s world was shattered when he lost three of his children, along with their cousin, after they were struck by a drunk and drug-affected driver. It was a tragedy that shocked the nation.

Recently, Danny came face-to-face with the man responsible, Samuel Davidson, inside a maximum-security prison. The emotional meeting, aired on Channel 7, has sparked conversations across Australia about grief, justice, and perhaps most profoundly, about forgiveness.

To unpack this powerful moment, Lucy and kel spoke with Dave Adamson. Many will know him as a former TV reporter turned pastor, who went on to serve in one of America’s largest churches. Today, he heads up the YouVersion Bible App in Australia—the same app millions of us have on our phones, offering daily encouragement and scripture at our fingertips.

Lucy, Kel and Dave reflect on the questions so many of us are asking: Danny Abdallah has often said forgiveness set him free. Is forgiveness is more about the person forgiving than the person being forgiven? And why does forgiveness have such power to cut through and capture people’s attention?

Forgiveness doesn’t erase grief. It doesn’t undo tragedy. But as Danny’s story reveals, forgiveness can transform the way we carry pain. It can open the door to healing, resilience, and even hope in the darkest of circumstances.
