Can I ask you today to look back on your life thus far and, on a scale of zero to ten, decide how successful you’ve been (whatever success happens to mean to you)? Well, how successful have you been?

When you’re in the moment, fighting the battles you have to fight, dealing with the pressures coming at you from every direction, slogging away at whatever it is that you slog away at day after day, you don’t feel all that successful, do you?

I’ve been involved in the ministry of Christianityworks (that produces these Fresh devotionals) for a few decades now. Man, there have been some tough times along the way – rejections, failures, cashflow crunches. Some days, to be honest, it felt like we were lurching from one crisis to the next.

It’s not until we, as a team, look back to see the amazing things that God’s done over that time, enabling us, as we do these days, to reach millions of people each week around the world with the Good News of Jesus through the media, that we can see how worthwhile this journey’s been. Jesus put it like this:

Luke 16:10 Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with big things. Whoever is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in big things too.

When you look at it from Jesus’ standpoint, success isn’t some grand gesture, but a series of small wins over time through faithfulness, perseverance and sowing to reap lasting fruit through small, obedient steps.

And listen … with each small win, He’s preparing you for even greater things.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
