A good many people say they believe in Jesus (sort of, I guess), but put off committing their lives to Him and laying down their prideful pursuits to follow Him in humility. Well, yeah, okay … I’ll get around to it one day. But that – and here’s today’s solemn warning –  that turns out to be an eternally fatal error to make.

Captain Edward Smith was the seasoned and respected officer in command of the Titanic on her maiden voyage. Yet, despite receiving six iceberg warnings, he delayed reducing speed or altering course. Confident in the ship’s design, he saw no immediate danger. By the time the iceberg was spotted, it was too late. Over 1,500 perished in the icy waters that night.

Hold that thought, as we listen to Jesus when He said.

Luke 13:24-27 “The door to heaven is narrow. Try hard to enter it. Many people will want to enter there, but they will not be able to go in. If a man locks the door of his house, you can stand outside and knock on the door, but he won’t open it. You can say, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you. Where did you come from?’ Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you. You taught in the streets of our town.’ Then he will say to you, ‘I don’t know you. Where did you come from? Get away from me! You are all people who do wrong!’

As 20th century theologian Carl Henry put it, “The Gospel is only good news if it gets there on time.” Don’t delay. Follow Jesus today.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
