Dan Bremnes recently joined Cam Want on The Daily from Portugal and the conversation went deep.

The Canadian artist just released his new album, The Hero and the Villain, and it’s not your typical worship record. This is a raw, honest journey through faith lost and found, mental health battles, and the messy reality of being human.

The concept hit him by accident. While writing, the phrase “the hero and the villain” just came out. Some days he felt like the hero of his story. Other days? The villain. “I was realising that the side of me that self-sabotages — that’s the side that needs to be healed and loved and brought back home,” Dan shared.

It wasn’t an easy process. Raised as a pastor’s kid, Dan felt pressure to have it all together. But during this season, anxiety crept in. His mental health took a hit. He felt like he was losing his faith. “I was becoming so unhealthy. Something had to change.” That wake-up call led to surrender. Dan reached out for help and described what followed as a miracle: he got his life back, rediscovered his faith, and found his soul again.

The album reflects all of it. Started With You opens the record as a worship song that wrote him back to God. Human captures the weight and beauty of being alive. Find Yourself became the journey Dan had to live himself.

Now Dan doesn’t just want people to think the album is cool. He wants them to experience their own breakthrough. No matter how far you’ve gone, you can come back. You can find yourself again.
