Actions have consequences. That’s something our parents tried to teach us as we were growing up. And the sooner we learn that lesson, the sooner life gets a whole lot better.

If I were to reach out right now and punch you in the face, it’d be fair for me to expect to be punished. And let’s be honest, you’d want me to be punished because that’d be the right thing to do.

You may have noticed, if you’ve been able to join me over these past few days, that we’re focussing on this whole “actions have consequences” thing. There’s a very good reason for that. Our eternity depends on it. Here’s Jesus speaking into that reality, into your reality and mine, as we face today, tomorrow, the next day:

Revelation 22:12-13 Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. (ESV)

Life gets so busy, we’re so focussed on dealing with everything here and now, that we completely lose sight of the big picture; the eternal picture – our eternity.

But Jesus is eternal – the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, the beginning and the end.  And He is coming back – when? Soon! Who knows how soon? Our lives could be demanded of us tonight. Our time here on earth could be up tomorrow. Jesus could return next Thursday.

Soon could be much sooner than, in all our busyness, we’d ever contemplated.

Behold, I’m coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what they’ve done.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
